Many MoMs (mothers of multiples) talk about the struggles of labeling/not labeling and comparing the kiddos. We have found ourselves doing this several times already and I'm not really sure how you don't do this, especially in the first few days and weeks as you're getting to know your new little bundles of joy. Not only do they get compared to each other but to Abigail as well--ie Justin is so much more like Abigail than Ryan not only in looks but mannerisms as well. From what I have read in other blogs many MoMs have said that once you label one twin this they go and change on you and already in just shy of two weeks that we've had the boys, they're right.
So maybe we'll just call some of the things we've noticed Observations instead of comparisons...
Justin tends to be more fussy, while Ryan is more laid back.
Justin wants to eat ALL the time and lets you know it with Loud cries, where as Ryan will go hours between nursing sessions if I let him and not make a peep.
Justin is much more alert when he's awake, yet Ryan tends to be more bright eyed and awake more often.
Justin is more of a morning person, Ryan likes the evenings and night.
Ryan notices when his brother is not next to him and becomes very animated when you put Justin nearby (i.e. 6 inches away). When they're in the pack n play and Justin doesn't seem to care if Ryan is nearby or not.
Both boys smile so much more than Abigail ever did at this age, even if they're not "real" smiles at this point.
Night times are a different story all together and they haven't formed enough patterns to say that one does one thing or another.
How long these things stay true will be interesting to see. Will Justin always be a morning person, will Ryan always be the sensitive laid back type? Who knows only time will tell if these are characteristics of their personalities that will carry over into other things they do.

Back to the Patch...
Today was a great day!! Guy and Abigail went to church and the boys and I stayed home, nursed and got changed and ready for the day. At church, for the first time Abigail really opened up and sang along and danced to the songs. At one point she was standing up in the front singing "Jesus Loves Me" even the pastor made a comment about how good a mood she was in. Once we got home we headed out to go back to the pumpkin patch. Abigail hadn't gotten a chance to pick out her pumpkin like we promised and we had wanted to pick out more mums and some fruit and produce. I also wanted to get some more pictures. After a lengthy process of picking out her pumpkin--sometimes she's just like me, we got our fruit and headed out. We also learned a few things--A: they had almost everything still set up from yesterday and it was A LOT less hectic and B: next year we'll do all you can carry pumpkins and make out much better price wise and it will be fun to watch Guy carry ALL of the pumpkins!! Then we stopped by the river for a picnic lunch and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather we're having. The weather and the scene was very reminiscent of something we did with Abigail in MA shortly after she was born.
Later this afternoon we took it easy. Nana and Pop-pop came over for dinner and then took Abigail home with them so she can go to the zoo tomorrow. They also brought over with them three hydrangeas that they had previously bought for us for each of our three kiddos. So Guy finished planting the extra mums that we bought in addition to our hydrangeas. After Abigail was out of the door, we finished wash and had a quiet evening with just the boys. It was really fun to watch both of them AWAKE on Guy's lap b/c Ryan LOVES to interact with Justin and he reached his hand out for his brothers. We often get special little moments like these after Abigail has gone to bed and we calm down for the evening. These are some of the things that I hope to write about and capture on the blog since I know that in the frustration and chaos of other moments, I may not remember.

"Nope, Wrong Way"
Today we went to Farmer's Daughter Market for their fall festival. We took a tractor ride to the corn maze and picked out our pumpkin. Abigail loved the tractor ride and was all eyes. She was picking up the hay and throwing it up in the air. So about the corn maze, we started o
ut letting Abigial lead the way. We have a bunch of signs that said Wrong Way and Abigail liked to "Nope, Wrong Way" well I can't tell you how many times we heard that and NOT becuase she was repeating herself. Finally we gave up and when Guy and Grampie decided we couldn't find our way out (I thought we could but was tired and hot and we had our hands full) we decided to cut out at the side. We headed back up towards the parking lot--it really was quite embarassing but based on the foot trail that was already there we weren't the first to do so. Picking out a pumpkin is usually quite the task for me, I tend to need to find the perfect pumpkin and that happened relatively quickly this year. After being there approximately we headed home, all the kiddos had lunch and then took a nap--it made for a quiet afternoon, which is always appreciated.

This is typically Guy's time with the kiddos-- a lot easier when there was just one, but for now until we figure out our new routine he's doing all three. The boys are getting sponge baths, although Justin could get a real bath as his cord stump has fallen off and Abigail got a big bath tonight. But as we're finding out, sometimes the boys do the same things at EXACTLY the same time even if they aren't even near each other.. tonight it was peeing while getting a bath, Ryan was waiting for his diaper after finishing his bath and Justin leaked out of his diaper before bath even started. Other things like this have happened before like little or big sighs or sneezes or even hiccups, when they're across the room from each other. Is it a twin thing or just random coincidences?!?!

Introducing
Welcome to our new blog, we're the Delp's and 9 months ago we found out we were pregnant, and 8 months ago we found out we were pregnant with TWINS!!! That's how our family of 3 and a dog became 5 and a Dog! I'm Becky a now stay at home mom to three kiddos, who hopes to get back to being a pediatric PT at some point in time. Guy is my loving husband and wonderful father who has been very busy since about 28 wks into the pregnancy when as per my OBs twin protocol I was put on modified bedrest. Abigail is our two year old little girl who is loving being a great big sister to her new little brothers Justin and Ryan who were born on 9/29/08. Baby A is Justin and was born at 1:11pm weighing 8.4 lbs and 20.5 inches, and Baby B is Ryan he was born at 1:33pm and was 7.3 lbs and is 20 inches. Our Dog--is Zoey a Golden Retriever who will be 6 at the end of the month, yet she acts as if she's more like 10.
This blog is not only to keep friends and family up to date on the daily happenings in our crazy house but also to be honest about what life is like for our family of Five and a Dog. It is also a place to try and help me remember the upcoming year in years to come as not only does time fly but i've been told and have already started to experience that the first year of twins lives are such a blur and you just keep going through the motions trying to get by one day at a time and sometimes one hour at a time.
So many things have happened in the short time that our boys have come home from the hospital and I have missed so many little things already that I'd like to remember, but the past few days have really been somewhat of a blur--something quite common with any newborn, you can only imagine what it's like having two in addtion to a two year old.
Both boys are doing great and have been to the pediatrician once and don't have to go back until they are a month old. They are getting bigger and bigger everyday and although they're fraternal the look more and more alike as they grow. We call them the wrong names often, yet we haven't
really mixed them up, but as Guy says at two in the morning when they're both swaddled and next to each other in the pack and play it's amazing how much they really do look alike. Ryan has shed his first tiny tear and to be honest we just missed getting it on camera and we're not even really sure what it was all about b/c as soon as it started it was over.

Some days there may be a lot to say and others not so much. In the upcoming days I hope to go back and recount the boy's birth story as well as some other thoughts on having and raising twin boys, as well as a toddler. At first I'm sure it will be slanted towards the twins but have no fear Abigail will not be left out as the days and weeks go on. We hope you enjoy, read what is of interest and skip what isn't.
River Walk
One of the fun Daddy/Daughter things to do is 
take a walk down to the river by our house. With the weather cooperating the past few days and since we just got our new camera I took Abigail for a nice sunny walk. She loves to load up in the backpack and have Daddy carry her around. On our walk through the neighborhood we sang songs and then she told me all about the different color leaves that we saw as we walked on the short path through the woods that leads to the river. Once we got down to a nice grassy spot I took Abigail out of the backpack to walk around and got some GREAT pictures of her!!
We tried to wait around to try and see a train go by (Abigail loves trains) but alas no luck today :-(
